This week, the price of ethylene glycol fluctuated strongly. According to data from Shengyi Society, as of August 25th, the average price of domestic oil to ethylene glycol was 4501.67 yuan/ton, an increase of 1.50% from the average price of 4435 yuan/ton on August 1st.
In terms of port ethylene glycol, the spot contract price of port ethylene glycol slightly strengthened with the market on August 25, 2025. This week’s spot contract basis range is+93 to+103 yuan/ton (contract 09), with a slight increase in intraday basis.
The spot price of domestic coal to polyester grade ethylene glycol (loose water, tax included, self pickup) per unit is 4050-4100 yuan/ton.
In terms of external ethylene glycol, recent ship cargo negotiations have resulted in transactions around 532-536 US dollars per ton, with relatively firm prices in the afternoon. In the afternoon, recent cargo transactions have been around 532-535 US dollars per ton, with some suppliers participating in restocking. In addition, there is a transaction near 538 US dollars/ton for Taiwan’s tender goods.
Short term ethylene glycol has a strong sideways trend and a high probability of oscillation
This week, the arrival volume of ethylene glycol at ports is low, and the downstream polyester peak season is expected to be strong. Coupled with the expectation of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates and the expectation that South Korean petrochemical companies will agree to reduce their annual naphtha cracking capacity by up to 3.7 million tons, it is expected that there will be a high probability of short-term ethylene glycol fluctuations.
